if you have a light out why don't you just get a new light? you will probably be using AC most things run on AC if it was DC when the light went you your whole printer would have probably shut down.

Searching my brain for everything I know, I would agree with CA and say AC.

One of the things I'm going to school for is electronics. That's an AC powered device.

Conversion formula is:

Watts = Volts * Amps

For your printer lamp:
? amps * 230 volts = ? watts

Find out what amperage your Volt lamp worked at and plug it into the formula. Then you'll be able to figure out what wattage lamp you can use in the printer.

no its nothing to do with the printer. i took the printer apart and the lamp is having the wattage and voltage written on it. i think i have worked it out as 3.7 amp so would i be right in thinking of getting a 6 amp fuse?

well thats a little less then double the amps then you need. why do you want to go with a 6 amp instead of like a 4 amp fuse?

why don't you just buy an 830watt lamp? Because that's what you need if according to the formula.

It would be safest to just get somebody else other that you to plug it in and see what happens.
